Germany: Manufacturing sector order backlog fell by 0.4% in May

The order book in the manufacturing sector in Germany fell by 0.4 percent in May 2024 compared with the previous month, according to data released today by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).

The decline in the order book in May was negatively affected by events in the automotive sector (-0.8%), in the data processing equipment, electronics and optical products production sectors (-0.9%) and in the metal products production sectors (-0.9%). On the other hand, the increase in the production of electrical equipment (+1.0%) had a positive impact on the order book.
