YouTube Music has introduced a new AI feature that makes it easier for users to find songs by simply humming a melody or singing a few words.

This feature, called “audio search” or “noise search,” allows users to start a search by tapping the search bar and clicking the button with the signal waveform symbol.

According to 9to5Google, once this is done, a screen opens where users can hum or play a fragment of the song they are looking for.

The AI song recognition feature, initially rolled out to select Android users in May and then temporarily pulled, is now officially rolling out globally to Android and iOS users as of Monday, July 15.

In addition to this new search feature, YouTube Music is reportedly testing another AI feature called conversation radio.

The feature, currently only available to select YouTube Premium users in the U.S., lets users access personalized radio stations based on descriptions of the type of music they want to listen to. For example, users can ask stations to play “catchy pop choruses” or “upbeat pop anthems.”

According to TechCrunch, the conversation radio feature appears as a tab titled “Request Music Any Way You Want” in the home feed. Tapping on the tab brings up a UI screen where users can enter their music preferences or choose from suggested suggestions.

The integration of generative AI features into music streaming platforms like YouTube Music reflects a broader trend in online services.

Companies like Spotify, Amazon Music and Deezer are also exploring AI-powered technologies to improve user experiences by creating personalized playlists based on individual music tastes.

These improvements enable users to engage with their music libraries in a more natural way, whether they are searching for specific songs or discovering new music with personalized recommendations.
