Hyderabad: In the wake of the deadly gunfire in Doda in Jammu and Kashmir that left four Army personnel, including a major, dead, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. Addressing the media on Tuesday, Owaisi referred to Modi’s earlier statements on fighting terrorism, stating, “PM Modi used to say ‘Ghar mein ghus kar marenge’. What is this? It is a failure of the government. They are unable to control terrorism. Whatever happened in Doda is very dangerous.”

Owaisi’s comments came amid a wave of criticism from opposition parties who have condemned the BJP-led government’s handling of security in Jammu and Kashmir.

Rahul Gandhi, leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, highlighted the ongoing security issues in the region, saying, “These continuous terror attacks reflect the deteriorating condition of Jammu and Kashmir. Our soldiers and their families are bearing the brunt of the BJP’s misguided policies.”

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge stressed the need for a change in security strategy, stating, “The wave of terror attacks that have gripped Jammu and Kashmir in the last 36 days requires a careful recalibration of our security strategy. The Modi government is behaving as if everything is ‘normal’ and nothing has changed. They must know that the Jammu region is increasingly suffering the consequences of these attacks.”

Former J&K Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti echoed these sentiments, demanding accountability and calling for the sacking of DGP RR Swain. “Unfortunately, there is no accountability. Heads should have rolled already… The DGP (RR Swain) should have been sacked already,” she said.

AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj also criticised the central government’s policies, stating, “Even today, there was a terrorist attack. The central government’s policy towards Kashmir has completely failed. The BJP was part of the elected government, it removed the government and imposed President’s rule, but the situation has not improved.”

The encounter that broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Desa Forest area on Monday evening claimed the lives of Captain Brijesh Thapa, Naik D Rajesh, Sepoy Bijendro and Sepoy Ajay. The incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in the region and has prompted calls for a more effective and responsible approach to combating terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
