Gymnastics Australia appoints Alistair Edgar as new CEO

Gymnastics Australia has appointed Alistair Edgar as its new CEO, joining from his previous role as CEO of Gymnastics Victoria. Edgar brings a wealth of experience in business, sports management, gymnastics and the public sector to his new role.

Gymnastics Australia CEO Sam Offord expressed his enthusiasm for Edgar’s appointment, stating: “We are thrilled to have Alistair join us as CEO, particularly at this exciting time for our sport. His extensive experience in gymnastics, coupled with his strategic foresight from his roles as a coach, events manager, state board director and state CEO, make him the ideal candidate to lead our sport into the future.”

Offord also praised interim CEO Chris O’Brien, who has served admirably in his role over the past six months, while also serving as National Performance Director as he prepares the Australian team for the upcoming Paris Olympic Games.

Looking to the future, Offord said he hoped the Board would work with Edgar, Gymnastics Australia, state and territory associations and affiliated clubs to support the development of the sport.

Edgar responded by reaffirming his commitment to the role and importance of working closely with state and territory associations and affiliated clubs to drive gymnastics forward. He emphasised the need for unity among the leaders of gymnastics in Australia, uniting them around a shared vision to unlock the full potential of the sport and make a positive impact across the country.

In summing up his work at Gymnastics Victoria, Edgar expressed his gratitude to the Gymnastics Victoria board, staff and members for their unwavering support.

Gymnastics Victoria Board Chair Bronwyn Gilmore praised Edgar’s collaborative approach in Victoria, noting his success in nurturing relationships and his willingness to drive positive change. She viewed his appointment as a significant step for the sport and looked forward to working collaboratively with Gymnastics Australia and colleagues from other states and territories to deliver their shared vision.
