Pate reaffirms government’s commitment to healthcare transformation

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, has reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to transforming the country’s health sector with the aim of improving healthcare delivery to all Nigerians.

Pate said this on Wednesday during the opening ceremony of the permanent headquarters of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital in Nnewi, Anambra State.

At the hospital, the minister inaugurated several projects, including a medical complex with 2,000 beds and the commencement of construction of a regional, ultra-modern radio diagnostics centre for the south-eastern region.

Pate said the hospital is part of FG’s efforts to provide quality healthcare to people.

He commended the hospital’s Medical Director, Prof. Joseph Ugboaja and his team for the achievement and also appreciated the efforts of the private sector in investing in the healthcare sector.

Pate said: “The health sector is undergoing a transformation under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which aims to improve access to health care for every Nigerian citizen.

“Such a transformation can be seen in the area of infrastructure, state-of-the-art equipment and high-quality medical services aimed at saving lives and preventing diseases.

“This hospital is part of the federal government’s efforts to ensure that our mandate is met. We also appreciate the efforts of the private sector to invest in the health sector.”

“We assure the hospital community as well as the government and the good people of the state of our continued support to improve the health of citizens,” the minister added.

In his speech, the CMD stated that the event was an excellent opportunity to honour key staff members who had contributed significantly to the development of the institution.

Ugboaja said, “Our goal with infrastructure development is to create a world-class healthcare facility that will set the standard of excellence in patient care, medical education and research.”

He explained that the hospital’s move to a permanent location was a well-thought-out action and a strong determination aimed at fulfilling the mission and vision of transitioning the medical facility from an analogue to a digital model.

The opening ceremony was attended by the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, represented by his deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, and other dignitaries.
