Generac receives up to $200 million award from U.S. Department of Energy to provide renewable energy to Puerto Rico’s most vulnerable residents

Local companies to deliver solar/battery installations to low-income communities most affected by long and frequent power outages

WAUKESHA, Wisconsin., July 17, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Generac Power Systems (NYSE: GNRC), a leading global designer, manufacturer and supplier of power technology solutions and other energy products, today announced that the company has received a grant of up to 200 million dollars during the five-year period of the award agreement with the United States Department of Energy (DOE) under 1 billion dollars Puerto Rico Energy Resilience Fund (PR-ERF). Under the PR-ERF Programa Acceso Solar (Solar Access Program), Generac will facilitate the installation of home solar and energy storage systems for disadvantaged households in Puerto Rico. Installations will begin in August 2024.

Generac and its local project affiliates in Puerto Rico will bring clean, resilient energy to low-income areas experiencing frequent and prolonged power outages, as well as to households with a resident who has an energy-dependent disability. This funding will also support clean energy jobs and help Puerto Rico meet its renewable energy goal of meeting its electricity needs 100% renewable energy by 2050 Puerto Rico Residents interested in participating in the program can visit the Programa Acceso Solar website to learn more.

Generac will be working with several companies to support the program:

  • The two community organizations working in this initiative are PathStone, a nonprofit organization providing community and workforce development and humanitarian services Puerto Rico since 1998, and the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC), a nonprofit clean energy organization founded in 1982 that pioneers community outreach and market research, will jointly coordinate additional community outreach by serving as liaisons between Solar Ambassadors, installers and eligible beneficiaries.
  • FR-BLDM, a leading local contractor with many years of experience in managing government programs, will manage the installations in partnership with other local, small, family-owned companies in Puerto Rico.
  • Juapi Energy, PWRcell installer and Generac service dealer in Puerto Rico will provide support services to residents and perform installations.
  • Palmetto, a leading climate technology company accelerating clean energy deployment, will expand three of its commercial software applications: a fintech platform, installation partner portal and asset management services to make it easier for homeowners to transition to solar and energy storage. These companies will spearhead workforce development and training efforts to provide jobs to residents of at-risk communities throughout Puerto Rico.
