Tamil Nadu govt introduces Tamil-first policy for shop advertisements

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government has issued an important order to promote the use of Tamil language in commercial spaces. According to this, all shops and commercial establishments should use Tamil language in the first instance.

According to a press release issued by Sub-Inspector of Labour Sriram, Coonoor, failure to comply with this ban will result in a fine of Rs 2,000.

A meeting convened at the office of the Deputy Labour Inspector in Coonoor discussed the government’s decision, emphasising that Tamil must be given priority over other languages ​​in all advertisements in shops.

The government directive emphasises the importance of Tamil language and mandates its speedy implementation within a specified time frame.

As announced, non-compliance will initially result in a fine of up to Rs 2,000.

Further violations could lead to prosecution. The Office of the Labor Assistant Inspector is urging traders to ensure that their shop signage complies with the order, with Tamil taking precedence over other languages.

The meeting was attended by Secretary of Coonoor Traders Public Welfare Association MA Rahim and others.
