Bangkok Post – Huawei innovates to support Thailand’s renewable energy transformation

Huawei is at the forefront of supporting Thailand’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 with comprehensive digital power technology, including ultra-fast charging and eco-friendly home solutions.

These solutions enable residents, businesses and smart grids to seamlessly transition to clean energy, combat global warming and translate into significant savings on fuel and electricity costs.

As Thailand moves towards becoming a regional hub for electric vehicles (EVs), the transition to a greener energy structure brings with it continued investment opportunities and environmental impact. To accelerate this process, technological innovation and proactive implementation are essential. In line with this trend, Huawei’s digital energy solutions aim to promote the adoption of renewable energy sources, encouraging both residents and businesses to embrace a sustainable future.

Speaking at ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week 2024 in Bangkok, Logan Yu, president of Huawei Thailand’s digital power business, emphasized that “we all live in an energy world: the tides ebb and flow, the sun rises and sets, and the wind and clouds change. Energy is everywhere around us. The key question is how to leverage technology and digital means to better use renewable energy in our daily lives.”

He emphasized that Huawei’s digital powerhouse is integrating digital technologies and power electronics to develop clean energy and digitalize it, helping clean energy become a mainstream energy source that is safe, stable, efficient and easy to manage, and supporting innovation in energy security and energy efficiency throughout Thailand.

In addition to green home scenarios, the industrial and data center sectors are increasingly turning to renewable energy sources to reduce electricity costs and achieve carbon neutrality while maintaining scalability.

ULTRA FAST CHARGING

Following the successful launch in China, Thailand is the first country in the Asia-Pacific region where Huawei has launched the FusionCharge Liquid-cooled Ultra-fast Charging Solution, also known as the “liquid-cooled power module.”

Building a user-friendly, grid-friendly and sustainable smart charging network is critical for both the electric vehicle industry and their drivers.

Huawei Full Liquid-cooled Ultra-Fast Charger offers a better experience with a charging speed of 200 kilometers in five minutes or 1 second per km. This makes it the fastest EV charging system on the market, Mr. Yu said.

“The liquid-cooled system reduces heat compared to air-cooled charging, which generates excess heat and takes 15-20 minutes to complete charging. This innovation solves a major problem for electric vehicle users,” he added.

“This is a significant step forward for the development of smart technology infrastructure in Thailand and the future trends of smart charging and clean energy,” said Mr. Yu.

The drive unit boasts a maximum output power of up to 720 kilowatts, quieter overall operation and a unit lifespan of up to 10 years. It adopts a power sharing matrix to save power grid capacity and improve energy utilization, supporting 4-12 charging ports or distributors.

While the capital outlay for this solution is higher than that of a conventional charging station, it offers a faster return on investment within three years. “Fast charging increases the turnover of car charging users, and the system can allocate power to other ports if a user parks for a long time,” Mr. Yu explained.

A high-quality charging network is a challenging area in Thailand.

Huawei GREEN HOME revolutionizes household energy management

Traditionally, many households have used low-power photovoltaic (PV) systems to meet specific needs, such as solar water heating systems.

However, after years of research and development, Huawei Digital Power launched the comprehensive GREEN HOME solution that meets all home energy consumption requirements, taking a significant step towards sustainable living.

The GREEN HOME solution is based on more advanced technologies, which include:

Battery Energy Storage System (BESS): With a 10-year warranty and adherence to strict safety standards, BESS eliminates the risk of fire, providing users with peace of mind. Optimizer: This device enhances safety by reducing the voltage to a safe 30V within 30 seconds. AI-based Management System: Using AI, this system dynamically manages solar power, BESS, AC charger, and grid systems based on consumption behavior, big data, and predictive algorithms, optimizing energy efficiency. Remarkably, the system is scalable up to 83 kWh to meet different energy needs and is adaptable to upgrades and scales. With Huawei BESS, homeowners can store excess solar energy during the day and use the energy when needed. Therefore, Huawei GREEN HOME solution enables the use of solar energy from day to night.

Paving the way to carbon neutrality

Now more than just a concept, the GREEN HOME system is poised to play a key role in Thailand’s 2050 carbon neutrality roadmap. By providing a robust and flexible energy solution, Huawei Digital Power enables households to contribute to a sustainable future.

Recently, the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE) announced that a new tax reduction program for households installing solar panels on their roofs is set to be finalized by July 2024. Any household purchasing a solar roof solution with a power generation capacity of less than 10 kilowatts can participate in the program with a maximum tax deduction of THB 200,000. DEDE expects 90,000 households to participate in the program over the next 2 years. With this announcement, we can expect an increase in the number of household solar roof users, which will pave the way for carbon neutrality in Thai households.

Logan Yu, President of Huawei Digital Power Thailand, highlighted the significance of this innovation, stating: “Our GREEN HOME systems are designed to support Thailand’s path to carbon neutrality by 2050. By integrating advanced digital technologies and power electronics, we aim to make clean energy a staple in every household, ensuring energy security and efficiency across the country.”

Huawei Digital Power continuously promotes the development of clean energy, and the GREEN HOME solution demonstrates the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability and technological innovation.
