Igel and Lenovo Launch AI-Enabled Devices with Igel OS

IGEL and Lenovo announced the launch of new AI-ready endpoint devices preloaded with the IGEL operating system. The collaboration aims to support next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) use cases while delivering solutions for Microsoft Azure Stack HCI and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) on Lenovo ThinkAgile MX systems.

Lenovo’s AI-ready devices include the ThinkPad L14 Gen5 (Intel), ThinkPad L13 Gen5 (Intel), and ThinkPad L16 Gen1 (Intel). These devices will benefit from direct access to neural processing units (NPUs) via IGEL OS 12. This collaboration aims to improve user experience and remote protocol resilience.

Bill McCarthy, Vice President of Strategic Alliances at IGEL, commented on the collaboration: “Together with Lenovo, IGEL is simplifying the deployment of AI, virtual desktops, and applications that make next-generation endpoint computing both cost-effective and efficient. Through our expanded co-development with Lenovo, IGEL OS 12 is now able to bring Lenovo NPU capabilities to the operating system to help customers get better experiences with audio/video content, improve remote protocol resiliency in even the most congested network environments, and help security tools better identify individual user behavior. This joint move positions IGEL OS as the most AI-ready Linux operating system for enterprise endpoints.”

IGEL and Lenovo have also made available IGEL-based solutions for Microsoft Azure Stack HCI and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) on Lenovo ThinkAgile MX650 V3 devices. Optimized for scalability and performance, these systems are designed to accelerate time to value for environments looking to bring the benefits of cloud AVD on-premises to meet data sovereignty and regulatory requirements. The combined strengths of IGEL’s preventive security model, Lenovo’s hardware architecture, and Microsoft’s latest security technologies set a new benchmark for virtual desktop security.

Jonathan Pollock, Director of Worldwide Commercial Computing at Lenovo, said: “Our goal is to ensure that every piece of hardware we build supports the complex needs of today’s enterprise, from security to performance. Integrating our AI Ready technologies with IGEL’s secure operating systems is changing the way organizations deploy and use virtual desktops.”

This development builds on the recent collaboration between IGEL and Microsoft. It represents significant progress in the secure and efficient management of enterprise IT infrastructure in a cloud-centric environment. The combined offerings of IGEL, Lenovo and Microsoft are designed to improve the security posture and operational efficiency of organizations.

These advances will be showcased at IGEL DISRUPT 24 in Munich, Germany, on September 16 and 17. The event will be sponsored by Microsoft, HP, LG Business Solutions, Lenovo, Citrix and Omnissa.
