India, Malaysia to increase cooperation in palm oil and agro-related sectors

The meeting saw discussions between Minister of Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Malaysian Minister of Plantations and Commodities Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

The Malaysian Minister is in India from July 16 to 19.

He met Shivraj Singh Chouhan at Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi today to discuss opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation in agriculture between India and Malaysia.

Both sides expressed their willingness to cooperate within the framework of the National Mission on Edible Oil – Oil Palm, discussed market access issues in relation to agriculture and allied products, institutionalisation of cooperation in agriculture and application of digital technology in the plantation sector.

The meeting ended with thanks to Minister of Agriculture Johari Abdul Ghani for his fruitful visit to India and expressions of optimism for further cooperation in agriculture and other areas.

India and Malaysia are witnessing increasing engagement in all aspects of bilateral relations including politics, economy and trade, defence and security, tourism and education, health, human resources, public administration etc.

Both countries have signed a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding in various sectors.
