Why ASML Holdings, Micron Technology and Advanced Micro Devices Fell This Week

Shares of semiconductor giants ASML Holdings (NASDAQ:ASML), Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU)AND Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD) Shares of S&P Global Market Intelligence companies were down 14.8%, 12.1% and 14.2%, respectively, as of the end of trading on Thursday, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence.

There was a lot of news from the semiconductor industry this week, both from inside and outside the companies. While not all of it was bad, given the sector’s above-average performance this year, investors took significant profit-taking as risks mounted.

ASML maintained its second-quarter results this week. ASML’s sales rose 18% and earnings per share rose 29% for the quarter, both figures beating analyst estimates. Bookings, closely watched by analysts, came in at €5.57 billion, up 54% from a year earlier.
