Jersey GP appointments suspended due to global IT issues

Photo Title, Some scheduled GP appointments in Jersey have been disrupted

Some GP appointments in Jersey have been suspended due to global IT issues which have caused major disruption across the world.

Many banks, airlines and media companies around the world were unable to use their computer systems.

Patient records from across the British Isles, including Jersey, are held on a UK database that doctors do not have access to.

Dr James Mair of Island Medical Centre said routine appointments have been suspended, but patients can still get help if they need it.

“If you feel unwell or have a problem that cannot wait, come to us.

“We just have to suspend routine meetings this morning because we simply don’t have access to the documentation.”

Other GPs are asking patients to go to their appointments as scheduled – unless a representative from the practice contacts them.

“Officials are investigating”

Deputy Prime Minister Lyndon Farnham said: “Islanders may be aware of the global IT issues reported in the media today.

“Officials are currently investigating what impact may be felt here in Jersey and regular updates will be provided throughout the day as information becomes available.”

The states added that IT issues have affected Family Nursing & Home Care, but essential and urgent home visits are being prioritized.

Children’s Services and Youth Mental Health Services have not experienced any disruption and visits should continue as planned, they said.

The Jersey SIMS student registration system has been partially restored and Jersey Government schools remain open as usual.

There have been no major IT issues reported by Jersey Water, Jersey Electricity, Jersey Telecom, Island Energy or fuel supply companies.

Bosses said it was expected to “take some time” to repair all affected IT servers and applications.
