HMD Global to Unveil ‘Made in India’ Crest Series, First Non-Nokia-Branded Devices

HMD Global is gearing up to launch its new Crest series smartphones in India on July 25, marking the company’s first non-Nokia-branded devices. The Finnish company announced the upcoming launch via a teaser posted on social media platform X, formerly Twitter. While the teaser doesn’t reveal many details, it does confirm that the new phones will have a glass back panel.

The announcement marks a change for HMD Global as it moves away from the Nokia brand it has been associated with in recent years. The HMD Crest series will be available for purchase exclusively through the Amazon e-commerce platform in India.

These smartphones are said to be manufactured locally in India. In line with HMD’s recent product philosophy, the new series is expected to bring user-friendly repair options. According to speculations and rumors, the upcoming HMD Crest could be a rebadged version of the HMD Pulse that was released in the European markets earlier this year. If these reports turn out to be true, we can expect the following specifications for the HMD Crest series.

Processing power: The device can be equipped with an eight-core Unisoc T606 chipset, manufactured in the 12 nm technological process.

Operating system: It will likely run on the latest Android 14 operating system.

Battery and charging: The set may include a large 5500 mAh battery that supports 10W charging.

Display: The smartphone may be equipped with a 6.65-inch LCD screen with a 90 Hz refresh rate.

Camera: In terms of photography, it could be equipped with a 13-megapixel main camera at the back and an 8-megapixel front camera for selfies.

Finnish company HMD Global has built its reputation primarily on producing Nokia-branded mobile devices. The company recently expanded its line of feature phones with three new Nokia models: the Nokia 3210, Nokia 220 4G, and Nokia 235 5G.

These mobile phones stand out for offering features typically associated with smartphones. All three models come preloaded with popular apps such as YouTube and YouTube Music, allowing users to access video content and music streaming services. They also include support for Unified Payment Interface (UPI) applications, allowing users to make digital financial transactions directly from their mobile phones.
