City officials are considering plans to build a new hotel in downtown Charleston.

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – Developers plan to build a new hotel along Morrison Drive that will serve tourists and locals looking for a “vacation at home.”

The hotel plans include a 10-story building with 250 rooms. The hotel design includes a rooftop restaurant, bar and pool, adding a freestanding four-story building next to the hotel.

The City of Charleston Engineering Review Committee ensures that the project meets city codes before any development is done. Committee leaders review an early site development package. This package outlines construction plans and potential site layouts.

Developers are asking for a clearing of the potential site at the intersection of Morrison Drive and Stuart Street. They will remove trees and vegetation, making way for development.

The review will be the commission’s second review this year, the first when leaders reviewed the plan in April. Commission leaders say working out the details of the project with the development team is an iterative process. Developers must comply with city regulations, such as stormwater, traffic and zoning.

The review committee plans to meet at 9 a.m. Thursday. The plan will be reviewed by the committee once it meets legal requirements.
