Nasscom, Meta launch open-source GenAI challenge: Rediff Moneynews

Nasscom and Meta have partnered to launch the Open-Source Generative AI Grand Challenge, which aims to support the startup and developer community working on open source and GenAI technologies to drive socio-economic impact.

New Delhi, July 25 (PTI) Industry body Nasscom on Thursday said it has partnered with social media giant Meta to launch the Open-Source Generative AI Grand Challenge, which aims to nurture a community of startups and developers who can work on open-source and GenAI technologies to create socio-economic impact.

The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), is the technology partner for the challenge and will provide the computing infrastructure.

“With the aim of empowering startups and the developer community to build GenAI solutions using open source technologies across various sectors, nasscom, in collaboration with Meta, has launched the Open-Source Generative AI Grand Challenge. The challenge aims to showcase the potential socio-economic impact of these innovations on society and businesses,” nasscom said in a statement.

The aim of the challenge is to connect the best solutions with industry leaders in relevant sectors to promote their wider implementation, it added.

It encourages generative AI startups and developers to create high-impact solutions in areas such as education, entrepreneurship, and e-government.

“Open AI models help democratize access to cutting-edge AI technology, enabling Indian developers to create innovative solutions for applications across domains such as education, enterprise, and e-government. Open innovation can further advance India’s AI capabilities while promoting security and innovation to unlock economic growth,” said Shivnath Thukral, Vice President and Head of Public Policy (India), Meta.

The winners of the competition in each category will receive a prize of up to Rs 4 lakh and the runners-up in each category will receive a prize of up to Rs 1 lakh.

Additionally, participants will benefit from the support of experienced industry experts who will help them improve their projects during the great challenge.

“By empowering developers with open source tools, we can create significant socioeconomic impact. We look forward to seeing creative solutions that solve real-world problems and contribute to the broader AI ecosystem,” said Ankit Bose, Head, nasscom AI.
