LG Gives Buyers a Reason to Upgrade Their TVs with a Free Major Update | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

If you’re considering ditching your old TV for a shiny new smart device, there’s never been a better time to upgrade. That’s because the big-name tech brand is rolling out a few major updates to its devices that will give TV fans a ton of new shows and channels for free.

LG has announced that its LG 1 streaming platform will offer nine brand new channels and hits like 12 Monkeys and Million Dollar Listing in partnership with NBCU Global TV. LG TVs already have easy access to a ton of entertainment on streaming apps like Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video, but owners will now be spoiled for choice with the updates.

Technical editor Dave Snelling explained how the updates will bring a range of new TV shows and nine extra channels to LG devices, highlighting the huge free experience on The Mirror.

“The update will begin rolling out soon with bonus channels like Real Housewives, Top Chef and Million Dollar Listing,” he said. “There’s also access to the science fiction series Bionic Woman; the fantasy series Xena: Warrior Princess; the drama-comedy Northern Exposure; and the animated series Voltron, He-Man & Masters of the Universe and She-Ra: Princess of Power.

“In addition to these new platforms, the LG 1 service – which is already available on LG TVs – will be expanded with shows such as New York Undercover, 12 Monkeys and Sliders.”

The free LG update also includes seaQuest, the Emmy Award-winning series executive produced by Steven Spielberg and starring Jaws’ Roy Scheider, which follows the adventures of a crew on a large underwater vessel patrolling futuristic undersea colonies on Earth.

The updates will be available across LG devices, including the 2024 LG OLED AI B4 Smart TV 55” which is currently £600 cheaper. At £999.98, the highly rated TV is powered by LG’s Alpha 8 AI 4K processor, which delivers “amazing” realism and high-spec resolution that can be boosted with intuitive AI.

It also has LG’s Infinite Contrast function for a sharp, clear picture, as well as Brightness Control, which can detect the light in the room and balance the picture accordingly for the best picture. The ultra-slim and elegant TV can even detect the layout of the room to create a “dome” of sound powered by Dolby Atmos, tuned to the acoustics of the room.

This model has earned a 4.9-star rating from LG customers, with some hailing it as the “best TV ever” thanks to its “amazing” picture and “flawless” sound.

One of the buyers said, “The best TV I have ever seen! We were blown away by this TV, from the lightning fast TV, easy connectivity and the picture on it which is beyond words. I think I have seen colors on this TV so clear that I will never be able to look at it differently. Its sound is impeccable, it doesn’t even need a soundbar. I call it a TV that can turn your living room into a home theater. From the picture, processor, sound and the features you get in this TV, it is more than good value for money and if I could give it 10 stars, I would.”

Another said: “The sound and picture quality is amazing, and the AI adjusts the look and sound of everything to make it even better. I was thrilled to be able to play video games directly on it, without any additional console. This is the first time I’ve had an OLED TV and the difference is huge! The colors are so vibrant and everything is super clear. If you’re thinking of switching to OLED, I highly recommend this LG. It’s really changed the way I watch movies and play games.”

A third added: “Absolutely essential! It was super easy to set up thanks to the stands but I also have the option to mount it. The point and click remote makes browsing through apps and programmes a breeze. I couldn’t believe how thin it is when I was setting it up, I didn’t think you could have such a slim TV. The picture and sound quality is top notch and for the price it’s great value for money. It looks super chic in my living room and I get loads of comments when people see it in action.”

However, a less happy customer said, “Out of the box, there are video ads everywhere, and they’re pretty hidden to turn off. The pointy remote is really awful and you can’t turn it off. If you want to pause live TV or change inputs, you’ll have to deal with a laser pointer or press multiple buttons to get what you want.”

As well as saving hundreds of pounds on screen sizes ranging from 55” to 77”, LG will also offer customers a 50 per cent discount on selected soundbars – such as this LG USE6S soundbar – to ensure users get the ultimate cinema experience at home.

LG isn’t the only brand tempting customers with deals, as Samsung has slashed the prices of selected models in its 2024 QLED smart TV range. The 55-inch QN85D Neo QLED 4K HDR Smart TV is now £300 cheaper at £1,299, while the 55-inch Q80D QLED 4K HDR Smart TV is also £300 cheaper at £1,099.
