Simone Biles responds to criticism of husband Jonathan Owens’ viral interview: ‘taken out of context’

In part two of The Rise of Simone Biles, the 11-time Olympic medalist talks about the fallout from her NFL quarterback husband’s interview.

Simone Biles isn’t biting her tongue about the controversy surrounding the interview involving her husband Jonathan Owens.

In the second part Simone Biles “Rising” premiering Friday, October 25, on Netflix, the 11-time Olympic medalist shared her perspective on the public reaction following Owens’ comments regardingTurnpodcast last year and said his comments were “taken out of context.”

In the interview, the NFL player was asked if he was “a catch” in his relationship with Biles, to which he responded, “I always say men are a catch.”

When the co-host Channing Crowder Asked how he was able to “get Simone Biles,” Owens laughed and then said, “Man, that’s really how she got me, man. That is the question.”

In the episode, Biles is seen laughing off-camera at Owens’ response, but his opinion caused a stir on social media.

“Social media gives (followers) this false sense of reality that they actually know who you are and how you function,” Biles, 27, said in an interview. Simone Biles is on the rise episode. “Most of the time they don’t realize the mental toll it takes, especially heading into an Olympic year.”

The famous athlete added: “I know we signed up to judge at the gym, but when you guys are going to talk about him or my family, yeah, I’ll come to you guys.”

Biles also shared that those who don’t know her or Owens personally “equate our love to the number of trophies and medals and accolades that I have, and that’s not how love is measured.”

“Most of the time I bite my tongue, but now yes, I have a voice, I always had a voice,” the gymnast said. “Just because you didn’t think I wouldn’t see it doesn’t mean I don’t have to respond… that’s crazy.”

Biles added that she “deleted Twitter” shortly after. The real life couple offered their answer via Instagram.

Following a podcast episode last December, Owens responded to the criticism and shared photos of himself and his wife on their wedding day. In a few more random shots, he wrote, “Don’t worry Just know we’re locked in here .”

Along with sharing his post with her own Instagram storyBiles also left a comment supporting her husband’s post.

“ for life,” she wrote.
