Former Eagles GM asks Cowboys about contract situation

The Dallas Cowboys have done little to allay concerns about their roster after relative inactivity during the free agency period.

Owner Jerry Jones and his staff have failed to address some of the team’s weaknesses and seem happy with where it stands heading into the 2024 NFL season.

But an even more surprising decision was not renewing the contracts of Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, despite having the entire offseason to do so.

Prescott and Lamb are considered the best duo in the NFL, though Dallas has yet to make much progress in terms of new deals for their stars.

Meanwhile, the rest of the league has extended the contracts of several of its top players, which will only drive up the prices of Prescott and Lamb.

Former Philadelphia Eagles general manager Joe Banner openly asked on his private Twitter account why the Cowboys are still waiting to re-sign their players.

“When I was with the Eagles, we thought the Cowboys were planning on cutting players as late as they did, which gave us a significant competitive advantage. That remains true and obvious to this day. Not sure why they continued that strategy,” Banner wrote on Twitter.

Dallas had a chance to hit the market and sign Prescott and Lamb to cheaper deals, but waiting gave other teams a chance to negotiate better terms.

The team has yet to provide a clear explanation as to why it’s taking so long, and the longer it takes, the more money they’ll have to spend to keep Prescott and Lamb on the roster.
