Dassault Systèmes, a French multinational software corporation that develops software for the design, simulation and production of 3D products, and ASICS, a Japanese sportswear brand, have jointly opened a studio in Paris to test a new service that delivers on-demand sock inserts personalized to individual foot shapes. The ASICS Personalization Studio is an ultra-compact factory. The modular structure combines Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform and virtual twin technology with ASICS’s proprietary sports technology to offer on-site, on-demand production of footwear components to meet each user’s exact specifications.

ASICS will use its proprietary expertise, supported by Dassault Systèmes modeling and simulation technology, to design the sock insert shape based on individual foot shape data modeled and simulated on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. Advanced 3D printing technology is then used to create the sock insert, a thick lattice structure made of highly elastic layered material that provides excellent breathability and softness. The exact level of softness can be varied for each part of the foot, aiding physical recovery by reducing stress while also improving performance.

ASICS plans to conduct operational testing and monitor user satisfaction as part of a trial run of a wider commercial release. In 2025, the ASICS Personalization Studio will be moved to Japan for further testing, and in the future, the company will consider applying the technology to other footwear products beyond sock liners.

“We are pleased to be working with Dassault Systèmes on ASICS Personalization Studio. Our partnership leverages the advanced technology and expertise of two industry-leading companies to deliver optimal value to every customer – helping them live healthier, happier lives with products that meet their individual needs,” said Mitsuyuki Tominaga, President and COO of ASICS Representation.

“We share ASICS’ commitment to innovation that improves health and well-being. Our partnership reflects this by demonstrating a holistic approach to manufacturing that puts the consumer experience first,” said Pascal Daloz, CEO of Dassault Systèmes. “It also demonstrates how the virtual world is catalyzing the 21st century economy. With their scientific foundations, our virtual twins enable the industry to not only improve performance and product experiences, but also promote more sustainable business models.”
