Dr Neeraj Patil appointed to National Executive Committee of Labour Party

Dr Neeraj Patil, a prominent non-resident Indian and former Lord Mayor of the London Borough of Lambeth, has been appointed a member of the Labour Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), the party’s highest decision-making body.

Confirmation came from General Secretary David Evans last week. The NEC is responsible for governing the Labour Party, setting its strategic direction and developing policy. It is made up of 39 members, including Prime Minister Keir Starmer, union representatives, MPs and party members.

Originally from Kalburga in Karnataka, Patil was educated in India and then did postgraduate work at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh. With 28 years in the NHS as a consultant in emergency medicine, Patil has been an active member of the Labour Party for two decades. He has served twice on the National Policy Forum and eight years on Lambeth Council, where he played a key role in the installation of the Basaveshwara statue in 2015.
