India-US travel expected to surge: 18 Lakh Indians to visit America in 2023

US Consul General in Kolkata Melinda Pavek on Sunday revealed that around 18 lakh Indian citizens are expected to visit the United States in 2023.

Pavek highlighted the importance of the US-India relationship, emphasizing how people-to-people interactions strengthen these ties. She made the remarks after inaugurating the new Visa Application Center (VAC) at Pataka House on Mirza Ghalib Street, which boasts almost twice the number of check-in counters compared to its predecessor at Jasmine Tower, according to a statement from the US consulate.

Pavek highlighted mutual opportunities in cutting-edge sectors such as technology, healthcare, renewable energy and space exploration. She said, “Streamlined visa processes that ensure efficiency and transparency provide both Indians and Americans with the opportunity to explore new ventures and partnerships.”

In addition, Jeffrey Miles, Visa Coordinator at the US Mission in India, acknowledged the growing interest in travel to the US. He praised the consulate’s achievements in reducing wait times, noting that in 2023, US embassies and consulates in India issued a record 14 lakh US visas, including over 7 lakh tourist visas. This record underscores the strong interest in travel and cultural exchange between the two nations.
