Mann ki Baat: PM sheds light on Sambalpuri saree

Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Moscow, unveiled the Sambalpuri scarf at an event organised by the Indian diaspora. On Sunday, the Prime Minister spoke about the Sambalpuri scarf in his radio show ‘Mann Ki Baat’. Sambalpuri saree when he shed light on various hand-woven products from all over the country, which are gaining more and more popularity.
Before National Handloom Weaving Day On August 7, Modi also urged his countrymen to wear handloom products and promote local handloom products in their region using the hashtag #MyProductMyPride.
“We will be celebrating National Handloom Day on August 7. The way handloom products have found a place in people’s hearts is very encouraging,” Modi said, adding that India has a rich tradition of handloom.
“Artisans in different parts of the country are popularising handloom. Whether it is the Sambalpuri saris of Odisha, Maheswari saris of Madhya Pradesh, Paithani saris of Maharashtra, handloom block prints of Vidarbha, Bhutiko shawls and woollen garments of Himachal or Kani shawls of Jammu and Kashmir, the work of handloom artisans is prevalent in every corner of the country. Indian craftsmen “We weave not only fabrics but also stories of heritage and creativity, and this sector provides employment to many people, mainly women,” he said.
Prime Minister Mohan Majhi thanked Prime Minister Modi for praising the Sambalpuri saree. “This will help in promoting and popularizing handloom products in Odisha and other states and support the overall development of artisans,” Majhi wrote on X.
Modi also praised AI-based startups for popularizing Indian handloom products. He also asked people to start wearing Khadi products and promote them.
