Radisys supports Watch Communications’ expansion of rural ultra-broadband services

HILLSBORO, Ore., July 29, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Radisys® Corporation, a global leader in open telecommunications solutions, today announced that Watch Communications, a leading provider of wireless broadband and fiber access services, has selected Radisys’ Connect Open Broadband portfolio to expand connectivity services to rural customers. Rural communities face significant challenges in accessing basic services due to limited broadband infrastructure. Radisys’ distributed Connect Open Broadband portfolio of flexible broadband solutions will enable Watch to deliver IPTV, whole-home DVR, and voice and video services to unserved and underserved customers in new and existing rural markets. By leveraging the open APIs and cloud-native microservices in Radisys’ Connect Open Broadband solution, Watch can efficiently deploy a rural broadband infrastructure that enables modern services while minimizing operational costs.

Greater flexibility and seamless integration to support growing bandwidth needs
The interoperability of Radisys Connect Open Broadband’s distributed architecture and open APIs enables Watch to easily integrate a best-in-class solution into its existing broadband network without having to replace existing equipment. Connect Open Broadband can evolve with Watch’s network, ensuring it can quickly adapt to the needs of Watch’s rural broadband customers while delivering excellent service and flexibility in service delivery. Additionally, Radisys Connect Xperience software will provide Watch with the ability to monitor, manage, service and manage all subscriber devices on the Watch network from a single software platform to enhance the subscriber experience.

Innovate and scale services faster to optimize cost efficiency
Radisys’ industry-standard Combo Passive Optical Network (PON) Optical Line Terminals (OLTs) support G-PON and XGS-PON on the same PON OLT port, enabling Watch to seamlessly migrate subscribers to XGS-PON, scale the network to ultra-broadband connectivity, increase network performance, and maintain control over the innovation cycle, all while reducing overall costs. The distributed solution also includes a selection of white-label Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) for a variety of environments, including homes, businesses, apartments, and more. Additionally, with support for bandwidths up to 10G and an easy migration path to higher speeds, Watch can quickly deploy services tailored to the needs of its unserved and underserved customers.

Improved economics with seamless service activation and management
With Radisys’ Connect Broadband Access Controller (CBAC) intelligent cloud software platform, Watch can scale microservices individually to meet capacity and throughput requirements and improve network operations efficiency, enabling future upgrades without having to change the software platform, reducing future CapEx costs. Additionally, Radisys Management System (RMS) provides Watch with enhanced network element management, including features such as performance and fault management, analytics and reporting applications to efficiently configure, enable and manage all aspects of the network, while maintaining high performance as Watch’s network evolves to meet the needs of rural customers. Radisys’ innovative pricing model eliminates the recurring annual costs typically associated with traditional EMS solutions, increasing Watch’s margins.

“Radisys is the only solution provider that met all of our technical requirements at a cost that provides the desired return on investment to upgrade our legacy equipment to a broadband access network that meets the bandwidth requirements of our rural communities,” said Chris Daniels, CEO and president of Watch Communications. “The elimination of recurring RMS software costs differentiates Radisys from the competition, while its open, distributed solutions allow us to reduce vendor lock-in, ultimately lowering costs and increasing our margins and profitability.”

“We are excited about this partnership with Watch Communications as it helps bridge the digital divide for underserved rural customers,” said Harris Razak, Head of Broadband Business and America Sales at Radisys. “Radisys’ Connect Open Broadband solution is ideally suited for rural deployments, providing robust, operationally efficient networks that accelerate the introduction of new services. Similar to our ongoing support for operators around the world, Radisys is confident that our industry-proven open interfaces and solutions can help Watch deploy complete end-to-end broadband solutions with built-in flexibility to serve its rural customers cost-effectively into the future.”
