178 deals announced in H1 2024, SecurityWeek analysis

Analysis by SecurityWeek shows that 178 M&A deals were announced in the cybersecurity sector in the first half of 2024.

BOSTON, July 29, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–SecurityWeek, a leading provider of cybersecurity news and information to global enterprises, has released its analysis of cybersecurity mergers and acquisitions (M&A) in the first half of 2024.

A total of 178 M&A deals were added to SecurityWeek’s Cybersecurity M&A database in the first half of 2024, the busiest half-year since 2021.

Of the 178 deals, 111 involved pure-play cybersecurity companies, which are monitored separately to provide a better and more accurate picture of the M&A market.

Data collected by SecurityWeek shows 133 deals involving U.S. companies, which is about the same as in the first and second half of 2023. The number of acquisitions involving European companies, however, fell to 49 — compared to 71 in the first half of 2023 and 57 in the second half of 2023.

Financial details are known for 33 transactions with a total value of USD 33.5 billion. The number of transactions exceeding USD 1 billion already corresponds to the total amount for the whole of 2023.

M&A deals involving MSSPs declined significantly compared to last year. There was a decline in deals involving identity-focused security firms and private equity (PE) firms, while application security (AppSec) firms were involved in an increasing number of deals.
