What does this mean for you and your social media accounts?

Earlier, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil highlighted the low level of compliance of some social media platforms with Malaysian law.

According to Fahmi, Instagram is in the lead with an 88 percent match rate, followed by Facebook (85 percent), WhatsApp (79 percent), TikTok (76 percent) and Telegram (73 percent).

X has the lowest compliance rate at 25%. The platform is now known for cyberbullying and pornography. Recent policy changes allow users to upload adult content without being banned.

While Facebook’s compliance rate is high, the overall level of fraud is concerning – the MCMC has received nearly 100,000 complaints since the beginning of 2024.

Moreover, according to CelcomDigi research, many fraudsters now target Malaysians with higher education and high income levels.
