Skynet Returns: Trailer for Netflix’s Animated Series ‘Terminator Zero’ Revealed

The series follows the aftermath of Skynet, the AI ​​entity that gains sentience and wages war on humanity in Terminator 2: Judgment Day. On August 29, 1997, the entity becomes self-aware, and the war rages for decades.

Set in 2022, Terminator Zero follows a soldier, Eiko (Rosario Dawson), who is sent back in time to change the course of humanity. She travels to 1997 to protect a scientist named Malcolm Lee (André Holland), who is working on another AI system, Kokono (Sonoya Mizuno), to compete with Skynet. While it exists in the Terminator universe, it revolves entirely around new characters.

In the trailer, we see Lee trying to save Earth from Skynet while being chased by an assassin from the future.

Timothy Olyphant and Ann Dowd round out the voice cast. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger are executive producers of the series for Skydance.

The eight-episode series will be released on Netflix on August 29. Watch the trailer below.

Apple TV+’s medical drama series Midnight Family will debut globally with two episodes on September 25, followed by one new episode every Wednesday through November 20. The streaming platform has released the first photos of the 10-episode series from showrunner and director Natalia Beristáin.

“Midnight Family” features an all-Latino cast and crew, led by Joaquín Cosío (“Narcos: Mexico”) and starring Renata Vaca (“Dale Gas”), Diego Calva (“Babylon”), Sergio Bautista, Óscar Jaenada (“Hernán”), José María de Tavira (“The Candidate”), Itzan Escamilla (“Élite”), Mariana Gómez (“Queen of Flow”), Dolores Heredia (“Cappadocia”) and special guest Yalitza Aparicio (“Roma”).

The series, inspired by the 2019 documentary of the same name, follows medical student Marigaba Tamayo (Vaca), who spends her nights saving lives in Mexico City in her family’s private ambulance. She and her father Ramón (Cosío) and siblings Marcus (Calva) and Julito (Bautista) handle extreme medical cases to make a living.

DIRECTOR’S NEWS

Wondwossen “Wondu” Dikran has been named senior vice president of Hallmark Studios, a newly created division within Hallmark Media.

Described by Hallmark as the “command center of the production process,” Dikran will manage relationships with creators and business partners across multiple divisions while identifying new domestic and international partnerships that provide opportunities for further innovation and production efficiencies.

“As we continue to expand and drive innovation and efficiency, I am thrilled that Wondu will lead this key initiative at Hallmark Studios,” said Lisa Hamilton Daly, EVP of programming, in a statement. He brings a wealth of entertainment experience, strategic vision and a collaborative approach that will be instrumental in shaping the future of production for Hallmark across linear and SVOD.”

Dikran most recently served as head of development and production at Falkon Entertainment. Prior to that, he was head of production at NBC Universal/Dreamworks TV. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts-Film and Television Production from Chapman University.

Dikran will report to Daly and work closely with the development team and the future VP of talent strategy.

PROGRAMMING

Max announced that Investigation Discovery’s three-part documentary series Taken Together: Who Killed Lyric and Elizabeth? will debut on the streaming platform on August 8.

The official synopsis describes the series as an investigation into the “horrific 2012 double kidnapping of two cousins, 10-year-old Lyric Cook-Morrissey and 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins, in Evansdale, Iowa,” spanning “seven years of exclusive access and insider interviews.”

Taken Together: Who Killed Lyric and Elizabeth? is produced for Investigation Discovery by Maven Creative Media, Kristian Day and Nedzad Muhamedagic. Dylan Sires serves as series director. Executive producers are Douglas Banker and Alex Garinger for Five All In The Fifth, Jessica Sebastian-Dayehand and Donnie Eichar. Paul Sauer serves as co-executive producer.

AWARDS

This Hollywood Creative Alliance and GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics will combine the Dorians TV Toast and the Astra TV Awards ceremony, to be held back-to-back on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Avalon Hollywood.

The 2024 Dorian Awards Television Awards, described as “an intimate gathering of nominees and GALECA members over champagne and hors d’oeuvres,” will begin at 3 p.m., followed by the larger Astras HCA 2024 Television Awards ceremony at 7 p.m. The organizations have also partnered to present a jointly sponsored Mosaic Award to a television or streaming series “that celebrates the power of diversity, equality and inclusion in a polished, entertaining and fluid way.”

OBITUARIES

Television writer Patricia C. (“Patt”) Shea, whose career included such classic series as “All in the Family,” “Archie Bunker’s Place,” “The Jeffersons,” “Happy Days,” “Cagney & Lacey,” “Lou Grant,” “In the Heat of the Night,” “Valerie,” “Baghdad Café,” “Gloria” and “The Golden Girls,” died April 12 (her 93rd birthday) in Sherman Oaks. Shea was the wife of the late John (“Jack”) Shea, a former two-time president of the Directors Guild of America and a veteran sitcom director.

Shea specialized in the “Edith-centered” episodes of “All in the Family,” including “Too-Good Edith” (the 203rd and final episode). She was nominated for the Humanitas Prize three times for the “All in the Family” episode “Edith Gets Fired” and the “Archie Bunker’s Place” episodes “Tough Love” and “Relapse.” Shea co-created Sally Struthers’ “All in the Family” spinoff “Gloria.”

Shea had five children: Shawn Shea (deceased), Elizabeth (deceased), Bill Shea, Michael Shea, and JJ Shea. He is survived by children Bill, Michael, and JJ; and six grandchildren.
