Jaipur: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel told the assembly on Wednesday that lokayukta the secretariat received 4041 complaints from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023. However, after January 1, 2024, only 951 new cases were received and 944 complaints were disposed of under Bhajan Lal Sharma, he said.
In response to a discussion on the 35th annual report of the Rajasthan lokayukta for the year 2023, Patel said that out of 4,041 cases registered in the previous year, only 1,958 were resolved. He emphasised that no complaint has been received against any minister or MP during the tenure of the current government.
Established in 1973 to combat corruption in government institutions and public enterprises, the lokayukta institution presented its report to the assembly for the first time.
Patel said, “The lokayukta’s office investigates the complaints and reports its findings to the governor, who then forwards the report to the chief minister. The chief minister forwards it to the concerned department, which decides on further action against the public servant concerned.”
He said the lokayukta secretariat has 99 approved posts, of which 79 are filled to ensure smooth functioning. The government is considering proposals for additional staff and technical support for the secretariat.
Responding to RLD Bharatpur MP Subhash Garg’s suggestion that the lokayukta should be given police powers, Patel disagreed, saying, “It does not seem that the lokayukta should have its own police force. The present police system is incapable of handling the complaints forwarded to them.” tnn
