Jackie Gagne, HBO and Max’s Head of Multicultural Marketing, Is Leaving

Jackie Gagne, senior vice president of multicultural marketing for HBO and Max, is stepping down after four years.

Her elimination is part of nearly 1,000 job cuts announced in July at HBO and Max parent Warner Bros. Discovery. The multicultural marketing team itself will remain intact and will come under HBO and Max executive vice president Pia Barlow. The company does not anticipate any disruptions to operations, as the two teams have previously worked closely together on projects.

Gagne has served as Senior Vice President of Multicultural Marketing for HBO and Max since June 2020, after joining Warner Bros. Discovery in 2011. She led strategy and planning for marketing initiatives to drive engagement with Black, Latinx, AAPI and LGBTQIA+ consumers at Max.

She played a key role in establishing the multicultural marketing strategy for HBO and Max and oversaw targeted promotional efforts for dozens of original series, films and specials, including “Insecure,” “A Black Lady Sketch Show” and “The Last of Us.” Gagne also spearheaded the launch of three audience-facing initiatives to help amplify and celebrate diverse talent and stories: Scene In Black, Human By Orientation and Pa’lante!.

“I am incredibly grateful to Jackie for the leadership and thought leadership she has brought to HBO and Max over the past 13+ years,” said Zach Enterlin, executive vice president, brand content and creative, HBO and Max. “Her talent for creating campaigns that authentically resonate with diverse audiences has impacted her entire career here, and her legacy will live on through the many people she has so exceptionally coached and mentored.”

Gagne added, “It has been an honor to lead and work with a collective of incredibly intelligent, thoughtful and innovative collaborators. HBO has long been synonymous with prestige and unforgettable cultural moments, so the opportunity to oversee campaigns that reach, embrace and uplift so many audiences while celebrating these stories has been a true career highlight. I am so grateful for the impactful work our team has accomplished and the lifelong friendships that have been formed.”

Gagne serves on the board of ColorComm, the leading national platform for diversity and inclusion in communications, marketing, media and advertising. He is also co-chair of the ANA Multicultural Marketing and Diversity Committee and a member of Ad Age’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council.

The daughter of Cuban immigrants, Gagne has a BA in English from Binghamton University. She lives in Maplewood, NJ.
