Srinagar: The Agriculture Department is planning to introduce a wider range of locally sourced goods on e-commerce platforms. The initiative aims to reach out to international markets by showcasing unique and high-quality products from the region.

Over the past few years, a number of Kashmiri agricultural products, including garlic and green beans, have made their way onto e-commerce platforms, enjoying huge popularity among consumers worldwide.

Given the scope of the medium and the success of these products, the department has intensified efforts to include more items in this digital marketplace.

“We are planning to explore this medium. The department will come out with a detailed strategy to ensure that Kashmiri farm produce gets wider reach and better prices,” said Mohammad Iqbal Chowdhury, director of the Kashmir agriculture department.

Due to geographical constraints and limited market access, Kashmiri farmers have often found it difficult to reach a wider group of consumers.

The emergence of e-commerce platforms has solved this long-standing problem by enabling direct contact between farmers and consumers across the country.

Nowadays, various agricultural products grown in Kashmir can be purchased on various e-commerce platforms.

From chili powder to Rajmah and Gucchi mushrooms, a variety of agricultural products are available on multiple e-commerce platforms.

These products enjoy good sales and recognition from customers all over the world.

Mohammad Yusuf Bhat, a dry fruit vendor, was one of the suppliers of Rajmah, saffron and other products to various online stores. “Earlier, we were limited to selling our garlic in local markets. Now, through online platforms, we reach customers all over India. This has significantly increased our income and motivated us to expand our cultivation,” he said.

This shift towards e-commerce has not only benefited farmers but also delighted consumers who can now access high-quality Kashmiri farm produce with just a few clicks. Customers appreciate the authenticity and freshness of the produce, reinforcing the value of traditional farming methods and local produce—(KNO)
