While it was an eventful deadline day in MLB with numerous trades being made at nearly the last minute, one executive says none of the deals made were of much significance.

“That’s the history of the term,” the American League executive said, according to Jayson Stark of The Athletic. “There have been a million trades. But have any of them really had much impact?”

This year, only two All-Stars were traded before the trade deadline: reliever Tanner Scott, who went from the Miami Marlins to the San Diego Padres, and Isaac Parades, who went from the Tampa Bay Rays to the Chicago Cubs.

While very few teams have landed real players, many traders have taken advantage of the deadline by trading some of their most coveted pieces for promising prospects. Both the Marlins and Rays, who are far from playoff hopefuls, are examples of traders who added solid returns for their players on Tuesday.

Some World Series contenders have added players who could help them in the postseason, such as the New York Yankees, who acquired Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the Marlins. In just four games with his new team, Chisholm hit four home runs, as the Yankees won each of their games with him in the lineup.

While the trade deadline doesn’t seem like much at first glance, the rest of the regular season and the playoffs could show who will truly gain and lose during this deadline.
