Shelley L. Morse (CTF/FCE) Elected to Education International Board, North America and Caribbean Regional Headquarters

OTTAWA, Ontario, Aug. 02, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Canadian Federation of Teachers (CTF/FCE) is pleased to announce that Shelley L. Morse has been elected to the Education International (EI) Board of Directors for the North America and Caribbean regional position. The election was held on 10t The World Congress of International Education is currently taking place in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The Board consists of 27 members who are responsible for leading Education International and implementing decisions made at the World Congress. Shelley L. Morse joins the Board in one of the two seats for the North America and Caribbean region, following the highly influential two-year service of Dianne Woloschuk (also of CTF/FCE).

Shelley has enjoyed a successful educational career, demonstrating a strong commitment to high-quality, inclusive, publicly funded public education and to workers’ rights.

In July 2019, Shelley was named President of CTF/FCE after serving three terms as Vice President and several years on the Board. During her presidency, she became the first Chair of the EI North America/Caribbean Regional Committee (2020-2021). She also chaired several CTF/FCE advisory committees, including the Status of Women, Diversity and Human Rights, Indigenous Education, and the Teaching Profession.

Shelley has made significant contributions nationally and internationally. Her commitment to unions and human rights advocacy has taken her to the EI World Congresses in Ottawa (2015) and Bangkok (2019), and she has been a delegate to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) five times (from 2015 to 2022). Shelley’s extensive experience in CTF/FCE and her commitment to EI will be invaluable in strengthening our global federation, contributing to EI priorities and services to Members, such as advocacy, campaigns, development partnerships, leading research, and embodying the essence of a federation of teachers’ unions.
