‘Absolute victory’: Judge throws out $4.7 billion verdict against NFL in ‘Sunday Ticket’ lawsuit

A California judge has overturned a June 27 judgment that awarded $4.7 billion in damages to plaintiffs in a class action antitrust lawsuit against the National League of American Football.

U.S. District Judge Philip S. Gutierrez’s ruling Thursday granted the NFL’s motion for post-trial judgment as a matter of law. Federal antitrust laws could triple the damages to more than $14 billion if the verdict, which found the NFL violated the Sherman Act by conspiring to inflate the price of its “Sunday Ticket” streaming service, is upheld.
