Final Fantasy 14 Mobile, an apparently completely separate MMO, has apparently been confirmed by… China?

Now we have the most concrete evidence yet to confirm the long-rumoured Final Fantasy 14 Mobile, and interestingly enough, it comes from the Chinese government.

Niko Partners is reporting that China’s National Administration of Press and Publication has approved a new batch of “imported games” that can now be released in the country. They include an untitled Rainbow Six game, Marvel Snap, Marvel Rivals, Paper Mario: The Origami King, and a mobile version of Final Fantasy 14 from Square Enix and tech conglomerate Tencent, which you may recognize as having already bought a large stake in the industry.

Niko Partners’ Daniel Ahmad explains that “it is expected to be a standalone MMORPG, separate from the PC version,” though there is no official confirmation of this information as Square Enix and company have yet to announce a port/spin-off/standalone game.

I believe this is the first official confirmation of Final Fantasy XIV Mobile? The title is being developed by Tencent’s Lightspeed Studios and Square Enix. It is expected to be a standalone MMORPG separate from the PC game.August 2, 2024

The news of the successful MMO coming to more platforms isn’t all that surprising, as the game is beloved by legions of fans, it’s a huge money-maker for the publisher, and the development team is excited about enough ideas to fuel it through at least version 9.0. Final Fantasy 14 just landed on Xbox consoles ahead of its latest expansion, and producer Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida has said he’d “love” to see the game on the Nintendo Switch successor. A port to an even smaller screen seems inevitable.

Elsewhere, a major Dawntrail balance patch went live earlier this week, which was meant to “increase the DPS of certain professions, not lower them,” as the main Pictomancer champions survived and the new Painter role wasn’t nerfed.
