Army opens fire after detecting suspicious movement along LoC, search operations underway | India News

NEW DELHI: Army troops fired warning shots after detecting suspicious movement of two groups infiltrators along the line of control (LoC) in Akhnoor and Sunderbani sectors of Jammu and Kashmir early Monday morning.
Despite the heightened level of alert, there was no direct exchange of fire. Large-scale search operations are currently underway in both regions.
According to officials, the first incident took place around 1:30 am in Battal sector of Akhnoor on the outskirts of Jammu. Emergency teams noticed suspicious activity involving three to four people and responded by lighting up the area with flares and sending drones for surveillance. Reinforcements were quickly mobilised to create a tight cordon around the area and a search operation began at dawn.
Meanwhile, troops in the Sunderbani-Nowshera sector of Rajouri district detected suspicious movement around 12:30 am and fired several warning shots. The area is also being searched as part of a wider effort to secure the LoC and prevent any possible infiltration.
The heightened security comes on the fifth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities have significantly beefed up security across the region to cope with any potential unrest or security threats related to the anniversary.
Ongoing search operations are focused on ensuring that no infiltrator crosses the border and maintaining the integrity of the LoC. The Indian Army remains on high alert in view of the current security situation and the significance of the anniversary.
Security forces are working closely with local intelligence agencies to address any emerging threats and ensure the security of the region. The situation remains under close surveillance as search efforts continue.
