While there was no exchange of fire, extensive search operations are underway in both areas to ensure there is no infiltration from across the border, it said.
The state Army troops opened fire after detecting suspicious movement of three-four infiltrators in a forward area in Akhnoor battlefield sector on the outskirts of Jammu around 1.30 am, officials said.
The area was lit with flares and placed under drone surveillance, and reinforcements were mobilized to form a tight cordon. The search operation was launched at dawn, they said.
Army troops also fired several rounds after spotting suspicious movement in the forward part of Sunderbani-Nowshera sector in Rajouri district around 12:30 am. Searches are also underway in the area along the LoC, they added.
Security was beefed up across Jammu and Kashmir on Monday to mark the fifth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, which gave special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. (Agencies)
