The latest milestone marks the sixth generation of the GI Genius hardware, which Medtronic distributes exclusively worldwide. The medtech giant introduced the next-generation ColonPRO software for the platform earlier this year. The latest version of GI Genius, launched by Cosmo, includes the FDA-cleared ColonPRO software. This AI application helps identify potential polyps and standardizes the reporting of quality metrics during colon cancer screening.

GI Genius, a computer-assisted, AI-based polyp detection system, is available in the U.S. in 2021. It is designed to redefine gastrointestinal screening by helping gastroenterologists perform colonoscopies.

Cosmo said in a press release that the system’s improved AI capabilities are accelerating the system toward new features. The module can support multiple AI applications, expanding its usability through a development program led by Cosmo with Medtronic’s commercial expertise.

GI Genius now also has improved connectivity, increased power efficiency, and integrated hardware for more reliable real-time performance. Cosmo said the advancement came thanks to engineering efforts using Nvidia IGX Orin and Holoscan technologies.

“The GI Genius System sets a new standard in endoscopy technology. Our ongoing innovation is driven by our commitment to improving patient care through AI. This FDA clearance marks a significant achievement, reinforcing our leadership in this space and our commitment to providing physicians with the tools they need to deliver exceptional medical outcomes,” said Nhan Ngo Dinh, President of Cosmo Intelligent Medical Devices.
