Garmin’s beta finally integrates Run Coach with Connect app

Garmin is making major changes to its Run Coach, allowing for better integration with Garmin watches

Garmin has made changes to the coaching settings in the new beta version that aim to make guided workouts smarter.

The change log for version 20.15 states: “Integrates the Garmin Run Coach feature with the Garmin Connect app.”

Until now, there were two coaching options: Garmin Run Coach, which offers ready-made training plans for 5K, 10K and half marathon distances, and Daily Suggested Workout, which suggests daily training sessions without long-term goals.

The problem was that Garmin Coach plans didn’t sync with the watch itself, so the app felt completely disconnected from everyday sports watch use.

Similarly, DSWs felt personal and reactive, but because they are generated weekly, they never felt geared toward a race or event you might have in the coming months. They ultimately worked toward that goal, but they weren’t part of a coherent, progressive plan.

The new Garmin Coach app update, available on Fenix/Epix (18.10) and Forerunner (20.15), brings Garmin Coach workouts directly to your watch – and fixes most of these issues.

Coached workouts will now be tailored based on training load, readiness and sleep – and you’ll be able to follow your plan right up to race day.

Users must set their goals in the Garmin Connect app, and then the experience is similar to the suggested daily workouts that appear when you start a running workout on your watch.

The feature is still in beta, and Reddit users are reporting some bugs. If you want it, you’ll need to sign up. However, if you want to wait a few months for it to appear on your Garmin watch.
