CNG shortage delays waste collection in city

Ranchi: Residents of different parts of Ranchi are facing challenges due to irregular waste collection services in their areas. Waste disposal vehicles do not arrive on time, which causes delays in garbage collection in several areas, including wards 8, 9 and 10. Garbage collectors, on the other hand, lamented the shortage of compressed natural gas (CNG) due to which vehicles are unable to ply regularly.
Gaurav Bhardwaj, a resident of Tiril, said, “Garbage collection services have been disrupted, leading to the accumulation of waste in our area.” Aisha Agarwal, a resident of Mahavir Nagar, said that overflowing garbage bins and strewn garbage not only create an unpleasant sight but also pose a health hazard to residents.
Dhiraj Kumar, superintendent of ward no. 8, said, “We have been struggling for the past five days CNG shortageGarbage trucks require CNG to operate and without proper fuel supply they cannot perform their duties effectively.”Subodh Kant Roy, superintendent of mini transfer station of RMC, said the fuel shortage has disrupted normal operations wasted collection vehicles. Currently, 266 active water collection vehicles have been assigned to this task.
Meanwhile, an RMC official feigned ignorance about the CNG shortage. “From what we understand, there is no shortage of CNG. The delays may be due to the existing schedule, which involves servicing different areas at rotating daily timings.
