As part of the settlement, mobile payment service Cash App was ordered to pay $15 million in damages.

According to the class action lawsuit, the plaintiffs are suing Cash App Investing and Block Inc. for “failing to exercise reasonable care in securing and protecting consumer information.” The lawsuit claims that the December 2021 data breach resulted in “the unauthorized public disclosure of the personal information of 8.2 million current and former Cash App Investing customers.”

In addition, the lawsuit claims that the former employee accessed and downloaded personal data of Cash App users without their knowledge.

According to the Cash App website, users who have made unauthorized or fraudulent withdrawals or transfers of funds from their Cash App account between August 23, 2018 and August 20, 2024 are eligible to submit a withdrawal request for up to $2,500.
