Apple updates EU App Store developer fees to comply with new regulations

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has updated its App Store fee structure for developers in the European Union to align with the recently introduced provisions of the European Commission’s Digital Market Act.

The changes affect how app developers use Apple’s App Store. EU link to a network showing users alternative payment methods.

“Developers can communicate and promote offers for purchases available in a destination of their choosing,” Apple explained. “The destination can be an alternative app store, another app, or a website, and can be accessed outside of the app or through a web view that appears in the app.”

The previous structure restricted developers from directing users to alternative websites where they could pay for in-app purchases or pay a fee of up to 17% or more to create a link.

To comply with DMA, Apple has also adjusted its Store Services Fee. These changes result in lower fees for app developers using Apple’s App Store.

For entities operating under the EU Alternative Business Conditions, an initial 5% acquisition fee and a 10% store services fee will be charged. The store services fee will be reduced to 5% for entities qualifying for the App Store Small Business Program.

Under standard terms, the initial acquisition fee is 5% and the store services fee is 20%, or 7% for App Store Small Business Program members.
