EAC Award Nominee CS Askul Explains Net Worth of 100 Million Shillings

East African Community and ASAL Cabinet Secretary candidate Beatrice Askul has clarified that the 100 million shillings mentioned in her documents do not belong to her.

Speaking before the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments, Askul stated that her net worth belongs to her family and community.

She argued that her culture allowed them to live in community.

The CS candidate further explained that her husband has been working abroad for 17 years and the wealth he has accumulated is the result of his hard work.

She added that these assets are also in the form of real estate and that none of them are registered in her name.

“I come from a pastoral community that is still rich in culture. There is nothing about me in this value. It is not mine, there is nothing under my name, but because the culture allows us to live the way we do, in terms of community life and family life, this value is not cash. It is the property that we have.

“As I said, I am married, my husband has worked in several places. He has been living abroad for 17 years. This is the value of the family. This is our net worth,” Askul said.

She also denied claims that her net worth came from her previous job in Turkana County, where she was a member of the county executive committee.
