GeM Portal Crosses Rs 9.82 Lakh Crore in Orders: Prasada: Rediff Moneynews

New Delhi, Aug 9 (PTI) Public procurement of goods and services through government portal GeM has crossed Rs 9.82 lakh crore as on July 30, Parliament was informed on Friday.

The Government e-Market (GeM) portal was launched on 9 August 2016, enabling all central government ministries and departments to make online purchases of goods and services.

GeM started its operations in 2016-17 with an order worth Rs 422 crore, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.

In the last fiscal year, it crossed Rs 4 lakh crore.

“The cumulative gross value of goods and services on the GeM platform since its inception was over Rs 9.82 lakh crore as on July 30, 2024,” he said.

Since its inception, GeM has registered over 1.63 lakh micro and small enterprises run by women and 25,000 startups.

GeM has a membership of over 63,000 government buying organisations and over 62 lakh sellers and service providers offering a wide range of products and services.

Currently, government agencies, ministries, public sector units, state governments and central police forces can conduct transactions through this portal.

The portal offers a wide range of products from office supplies to vehicles.

The most important product categories include cars, computers and office furniture.

The portal lists services including transportation, logistics, waste management, webcasting and analytics.
