Another suspect arrested in connection with planned terror attack at Taylor Swift concert

Another person arrested on suspicion of terrorist attack Taylor Swift concert in Vienna, Austria, officials said.

The 18-year-old suspect was arrested on Thursday. Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner said the Iraqi national came from the same circle as the main suspect, Reuters reported.

Karner gave the update at an unrelated news conference.

This comes after the arrest of two other people, including a 19-year-old Austrian accused of planning a deadly attack at the Ernst Happel Stadium using a “blade weapon” as well as “building a bomb.” He had resigned from his job just days earlier.

During a search of the suspect’s home, officers found “chemical substances, liquids, explosives and technical devices that could have been used to produce explosives,” said Franz Ruf, director general of public security. Bomb-making instructions and a machete were also found.

“He wanted to carry out an attack in the area around the stadium, killing as many people as possible with knives and even using explosives that he had made himself,” intelligence chief Omar Haijawi-Pirchner said.

Officials said police also arrested a 17-year-old who was employed by a venue management company and was supposed to be on duty at Swift’s concert. As previously reported by USA TODAY, the 15-year-old was detained and questioned by police.
