Amazon India sets up 4 disaster response centres, offers help within 72 hours in response to floods: Details

As of August 1, 2024, Amazon India has distributed 10,890 shelter kits to over 10,000 families across 34 districts, the company said. Tailored to immediate needs, the kits contain essential items like tarpaulins, ropes, soaps, oral hygiene products, buckets, mosquito nets, and sanitary napkins. Additionally, 5,742 ration kits containing dry food items have been delivered to flood-hit areas. Amazon has pre-positioned these supplies, enabling a faster response in case of disasters. The relief kits are packed in compact boxes, making them easy to store and transport.

Amazon India’s disaster response centres, set up in the country’s north, south, east and west regions, are designed to respond quickly to emergencies like floods, cyclones and landslides. These centres were set up by experts at Amazon Transportation Services, who strategically selected locations to optimise the company’s delivery network.

The ongoing monsoon season has already led to significant depletion of resources at these centres, with 45 per cent of stocks used in response to severe flooding in the southwest and northeast regions, as well as landslides in Kerala, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Amazon has distributed a total of 18,200 relief kits as of early August.

Amazon’s response was coordinated with grassroots organizations, interagency groups, and state disaster management authorities to respond to 67 requests for assistance. The initiative underscores the company’s commitment to supporting communities during disasters, with a focus on providing rapid and effective relief in times of crisis.
