Dr Jitendra Presents Week Magazine Awards to Outstanding Physicians and Philanthropists

NEW DELHI, August 9: Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh presented The Week magazine awards to eminent medical personalities and philanthropists at a ceremony organised by renowned Malayalam publishing house Manorama and Week magazine today.
On the occasion, Dr. Jitendra Singh also unveiled ‘Pioneers of India’, an album featuring 29 personalities who have contributed to various fields like social work, media, education, cinema, music etc. He called it a remarkable tribute to the indomitable spirit of creativity that has flourished in our country for millennia.
In his speech after receiving the award, Dr Jitendra Singh expressed his happiness at being part of the medical fraternity. It is worth mentioning that the minister himself is a renowned endocrinologist with a career spanning over three decades.
Dr. Jitendra Singh called the book a testament to India’s extraordinary heritage of intellectual inquiry and pioneering achievements in various fields. He also mentioned his association with the Malayalam Manorama group and said that he had attended a similar ceremony there even last year.
The Union Minister shared that this is the best time for the scientific and medical community as the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ushered in research and development. He also recalled the recent steps taken by the government in the union budget like internships for youth, waiving of angel tax and also referred to the CSR rules that mandate companies to spend a certain amount on research and development.
The Science and Technology Minister reiterated the government’s focus on StartUps and referred to the success in space and biotech sectors after collaboration with non-governmental sectors. He said India is one of the frontline countries in preventive healthcare. He also warned the fraternity against the spread of non-communicable diseases along with communicable diseases.
Sharing the mantra on sustainable startups, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, “Early industry association and shedding the skepticism that startups mean information technology is the key to success.”He also stressed on the importance of government priority and the enabling environment provided by the current dispensation.
Highlighting the unconventional initiatives and the importance given to our traditional knowledge, the Minister informed that the Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL) helps in digitising the available knowledge and enables its transfer to the younger generation.
At the end of his speech, Dr. Jitendra Singh praised the efforts of the publishing house for exuding optimism, positivity and creativity.
