Disney Shows Fans ‘Moana 2’ Footage, Also Reveals ‘Toy Story 5’ and ‘Incredibles 3’ Are On The Way

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Disney announced its upcoming films and television series, including “Moana 2,” in an exciting showcase with previews, live performances and surprise appearances from Dwayne Johnson, Zoe Saldana and Jude Law.

Disney fans at the D23 convention on Friday greeted CEO Bob Iger with a standing ovation at the top of the show, where he said he was looking forward to showing off snippets of upcoming projects to “both the young and, as we like to say, the young at heart.”

“The world needs entertainment now, perhaps more than ever, and we take that responsibility seriously,” he said ahead of presentations announcing new films in the “Avatar,” “Toy Story” and “The Incredibles” franchises.

The first surprise of the night was Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson’s performance of the song from the film Moana, which delighted the 15,000-strong crowd at the Honda Center, with drummers and dancers dressed in costumes inspired by the beloved animated film.

Disney later released the film’s first full-length trailer online. The footage shows off new characters (Moana has a younger sister) and familiar ones, like her pig Pua and the Kakamora, a gang of dart-blowing, coconut-clad pirates.

Both actors reprise their roles as Moana and Maui, respectively, in “Moana 2,” which is set to hit theaters Nov. 27. Before showing an extended cut of the film, Johnson said it was special for him to work on the films, noting that his daughters, who are 6 and 8, were in the crowd.

Johnson also announced that he would continue his long-running work on Disney projects to develop a live-action “Monster Jam” film. The studio has not announced any updates on Johnson’s other Disney project, the live-action “Moana,” which is in development.

Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have announced a May 2026 Star Wars movie, “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” which they said only recently began filming. Favreau said he felt compelled to “put something together” for the show, and showed a short clip of the titular characters, as he put it, “on a whole new journey.”

Law spoke about Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, announcing that it will arrive on Disney+ on December 3.

“I fell in love with Star Wars when I was a 10-year-old boy,” Law said, before sharing clips from the series, which has been billed as a coming-of-age story.

Pete Docter, creative director of Pixar Animation, announced that the studio is working on a third installment of the “Incredibles” series.

Andrew Stanton, who directed the first two “Toy Story” films, returned to direct “Toy Story 5.”

Stanton said the battle Woody, Buzz and the rest of the gang face in the film is a battle between toys and technology, noting that kids often choose gadgets over classic toys. The film is set to hit theaters in summer 2026.

Jennifer Lee, chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios, shared concept art from Frozen III, which shows Anna, Elsa and Olaf looking out at the horizon with a sinister creature lurking just behind them. The film will be released in 2027.

Director James Cameron and actors Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington reunited on stage to share new information about the third installment of “Avatar.” They announced the official title, “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” and shared concept art that shows new looks at Pandora. Cameron said the film is too early in production to show clips.

“The new movie is not what you expect, but it’s definitely what you want,” said Cameron, who will be honored as a “Disney Legend” during the D23 closing ceremony on Sunday.

Docter also announced a Pixar original film, “Hoppers,” starring Bobby Moynihan and Jon Hamm, and shared exclusive looks at the upcoming film “Elio.” Young “Elio” star Yonas Kibreab brought Saldana back to the fold and announced her as a lead, joining the cast of America Ferrera and Jameela Jamil. The film is set to hit theaters on June 13, 2025.

Pixar will also have two new series coming to Disney+, a first for the studio. Following the record-breaking success of “Inside Out 2,” the studio is developing “Dream Productions,” a series set between “Inside Out” and “Inside Out 2” that will stream on Disney+ in 2025. “Win or Lose,” Pixar’s first long-form series, will hit Disney+ on Dec. 6.

Fans were also treated to an exclusive look at “Zootopia 2,” which is set to hit theaters in November 2025. The film’s star, Ginnifer Goodwin, also announced that Ke Huy Quan will be joining the cast of “Zootopia 2” as a snake.
