MVA signed an agreement to frame me and trap me in false cases, says Fadnavis | Political News

Devendra Fadnavis

Devendra Fadnavis accused the MVA authorities of ordering officials to frame him.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday alleged that during the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, some officials were given a “contract” to frame him and other BJP leaders in false cases and put them behind bars. Talking to reporters in Nagpur, he said the Uddhav Thackeray-led dispensation did not put him and other BJP leaders in jail as many good officials refused to file false cases against them.

Fadnavis was responding to a question on former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh’s accusation that former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh was pressuring him to file false charges against certain BJP leaders. “What he (Singh) said about attempts to arrest me and other BJP leaders is absolutely true.

He spoke of only one incident, but there are four such incidents where conspiracies were hatched to arrest me in false cases,” he said. “However, we were able to expose these conspiracies at that time. We also submitted video evidence to the CBI and we have a lot of video evidence today as well,” Fadnavis said.

“During the MVA government, some officials were given ‘supari’ (contract) to put me, Girish Mahajan, Pravin Darekar and some other leaders in jail. However, they could not do so as there were many good officials at that time who refused to file such false cases,” the former prime minister alleged.

Recently, Fadnavis got into a verbal war with Anil Deshmukh as the latter accused the BJP politician of trying to exert pressure when he was the then Leader of the Opposition, when he was the Home Minister in the erstwhile MVA government, to frame key politicians, including then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

Deshmukh had resigned as home minister in 2021 after Param Bir Singh accused him of setting a target of collecting Rs 100 crore per month from bars and restaurants in the city. Earlier this week, Deshmukh had alleged that Fadnavis was trying to save Param Bir Singh from arrest by asking him to level charges against Deshmukh to topple the MVA government. Both Fadnavis and Singh have rejected the accusations levelled by the senior NCP(SP) leader.
