Former Black Stars goalkeeper Fatau Dauda has shared some valuable financial advice with young footballers.

The goalkeeper’s coach has revealed that he invested his earnings from the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations in property.

Upon purchasing the plot, he saw a significant return on his investment as the property’s value increased six-fold.

Dauda stressed the importance of financial planning for athletes, encouraging them to consider assets such as real estate rather than luxury goods.

“Life after football is our decision. I’m not saying I’m perfect, but I started it when I was at AshGold,” he told Joy Sports.

“We made money at AFCON 2008, a lot of money. The only car I bought then was a Golf. Now I can afford a Land Cruiser or anything else, but I chose the Golf.

“My mother had a house and my father was not around. I wanted to build a house, so I bought a Golf.

“But I realised it was a car I could keep. If I had bought a Range Rover, I might have struggled to keep it and would have ended up selling it for less.

“Where I live now, I bought land for ten thousand dollars, but now a plot of land there costs $75,000. That’s the difference between assets and liabilities.”

His story is a practical example of how wise investments can yield significant benefits long after a football career ends.

Dauda made 26 appearances for Ghana and was first choice for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
