  • Celebrating 25 Years: Jackson Pathfinders Improve Community Trails

JACKSON, NJ — Jackson Pathfinders, a volunteer group dedicated to trail maintenance and conservation in Jackson Township, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. This enthusiastic group, comprised of men, women, teens and Boy Scouts, has been instrumental in maintaining and improving local trails without charging any dues or fees.

Pathfinders manage four major trails: the Purple Heart Trail in Bunker Hill Bogs Recreation Area, the Silver Stream Trail in Metedeconk Preserve, the Steve Kitay Living Trail accessible via the Silver Stream Trail, and the Jackson Jungle Children’s Trail near the Jackson Justice Complex. Each trail offers unique natural beauty for hiking, mountain biking, and nature viewing.

To help visitors, Pathfinders have moved from traditional information cards to installing QR code signs at trail entrances. This modern approach helps reduce vandalism and provides immediate access to detailed maps and trail history with a simple scan.

Pathfinders invites the community to their monthly planning meeting on Thursday, August 15th at 7:30 p.m. at the Jackson Township Municipal Building. This meeting is an opportunity for residents to contribute ideas for improving the trail.

For safety and enjoyment, Pathfinders recommend wearing sturdy shoes, carrying water, and using tick preventatives. Detailed advice on tick prevention and removal is available on their recommended Rutgers University website.

Supported by local government and environmental agencies, Jackson Pathfinders continue to nurture a deep connection between the community and the natural environment. Their efforts ensure that Jackson’s trails remain beautiful and accessible to all.
