NDMC plants 10,000 saplings at parks, gardens

New Delhi: The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) organized a special plantation drive on Saturday, during which 10,000 saplings were planted in parks and gardens by dignitaries and staff members. The participants included Lok Sabha speaker, Union ministers, judges of the Supreme Court and High Court, and the LG, among others.
“Lieutenant governor VK Saxena planted a sapling of Rudraksh under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign at Lodhi Garden in honor of his mother.Later, he accompanied the speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla, in planting a sapling at his residence. The plantation was carried out as part of the mass plantation drive by NDMC,” said NDMC officials.
Union ministers, including Manohar Lal Khattar, Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Kiren Rijiju, also planted saplings of Rudraksh and Champa at their residences in the New Delhi area. A team of trained horticulture experts will oversee the growth and survival of these saplings.
The LG stated that the initiative aimed to improve the green cover to mitigate pollution and sustain the environment. “It is heartening to see govt agencies and citizens alike participating in this campaign with great enthusiasm. With collective efforts, we will be able to strengthen Delhi’s green lungs and make the capital a better place to live,” Saxena said.
A target of planting 76 lakh trees and shrubs has been set by local bodies, DDA, and other agencies in their respective areas. NDMC alone targets to plant 12,000 trees and six lakh shrubs and saplings this year.
